Where Does an AI Boundary Break?

This week I began with AI jailbreak: usually framed as a cybersecurity problem, but potentially also a cultural and artistic question. I wanted to understand what a jailbreak is, how people test an AI system’s boundaries, and whether those boundaries could become material for net art rather than only a technical risk.

The University of Chicago’s Glaze Project develops tools including Glaze, Nightshade and WebGlaze to disrupt unauthorised style mimicry or training on artists’ images. It reframes adversarial intervention as a way for creators to regain control.

Reflection

The material I found is still dominated by technical descriptions of attacks, risks and safeguards. Explicit artworks about AI jailbreak appear less visible, so my strongest artistic routes currently lead toward hacker and net-art histories, ASCII as a text-image system, glitch as rule failure, and games that turn guardrails into playable constraints.

Possible next direction

Look for historical hacker-art and ASCII-art precedents, then test one small browser interaction in which a visible rule can be negotiated, broken or defended. The aim is to discover whether “jailbreak” can become an artistic method rather than merely a theme.
